Guided tour of Arequipa : its colonial center, the Santuarios Andinos museum, the church and the cloister of the Jesus Company, the Santa Catalina convent and the Yanahuara and Cayma miradors, offering panoramic views of the neighboring volcanoes. Afternoon free. Night in hotel in Arequipa.
Early departure to the Colca canyon, one of the deepest canyons of the world. Arrival in Chivay, the « capital of the canyon », visit of the village, its church and traditional market, and possibility to go the thermal baths to bath your self. Continuation to the village of Yanque where you meet your hosts for the night. Night in homestay in Yanque.
You pass the morning with your local family who make you discover their local lifestyle. In the afternoon, departure to Cabanaconde for a little walk to the Achachiua mirador, where you will have a magnificent vie won the canyon and the Colca river. Return to the village and installation in your hotel. Night in hotel in Cabanaconde.
Early departure for the Cruz del Condor, a mirador offering a spectacular view on the canyon of Colca and from where you could observe the flight of the largest bird of the world: the condor. Return to Chivay and departure by touristic bus to Puno. Arrival in the evening. Night in hotel in Puno.
Departure towards the village of Llachon and discovery of the peninsula of Capachica during a walk on the banks of the lake. Meeting with your local hosts with which you pass the rest of the day. They will make you discover their local crafts and your children could play with the children of the village. Night in homestay in Llachon.
Day excursion on the Titicaca lake. Visit of the flotting islands Uros and the Amantani island. Here, you could walk until the Pachatata (4200 m), and enjoy a magnificent sunset on the lake, if the weather permits. Return to Puno in the evening. Night in hotel in Puno.
Departure by touristic bus to Cusco. On road, stops for visits : the village of Pukara, the pass of La Raya (4360 m), symbolizing the end of Altiplano and the begining of the region of Cusco ; having lunch in Sicuani ; the inca sanctuary of Raqchi ; the San Pedro church in the village of Andahuaylillas, also known as the “Sistine chapel” of South America. Night in hotel in Cusco.
On the morning, visit of the four ruins located on the heights of Cusco : Tambomachay, PucaPucara, Kenko and Sacsayhuaman. Return in the city center to visit the cathedral of Cusco and the Santo Domingo monastery, ancient temple of the Sun, also named Koricancha. Rest of the day free. Night in hotel in Cusco.
Day dedicated to the hike: you walk until the village of Sihuas, then the pass of Pukamarca (3900 m) from where you have a magnificent vie won the mountain range of Urubamba and the Sacred Valley. Continuation to the canyon of Puma Puncu, “the door of the puma”, before following an old inca path which drive you towards the isolated and mysterious inca site of Huchuy Qosqo, “the small Cusco”. After the visit of this site and after having lunch with a local family, you go down to Lamay and transfer to Ollantaytambo to take the train to Aguas Calientes, a small town located at the foot of the Machu Picchu. Night in hotel in Aguas Calientes.
Very early in the morning, guided visit of the most famous Inca site of the Peru: the Machu Picchu. Then, free time to continue the visit by yourself before taking the train back to Ollantaytambo. From there, transfer to the village of Maras and meeting with your hosts for the night. Night in homestay in Maras.
This day, visit of the salines of Maras, the site of Moray and the village of Chinchero, « the city of the rainbow », known for its textile art : the belts, ponchos and coats are weaved and coloured according to the inca traditional method. Here you will meet Sonia who will make for you a demonstration of weaving followed by the visit of the ruins of Chinchero. Return to Cusco. Night in hotel in Cusco.
Flight to Lima, and connection with your international flight.
You will be accompanied by a local private English speaking guide at every stage of the journey. This means you will have a different guide for each region you will visit, depending on their specialization. The level of English of the guides varies from one region to another. A few exceptions: - The trips in public transports (buses, shuttles, trains and internal flights) are not escorted.
In Peru, the hotel standards are different to what you may be accustomed to. Here are a few useful details on every type of accommodation: - Camp: thanks to the perfect organization of our cook(s) and muleteer(s), you could really rest after a good day of walking. We have a tent for the kitchen, another one for to take the meals, another one for the bathrooms. For two persons, you will have a tent with 3 places for more comfort. We also supply you a comfortable mattress and a basin of hot water at the beginning and at the end of the day for your toilet; and of course we prepare you warm and complete meals. - Homestay accommodation: Basic comfort, communal toilets, no hot water and sometimes no running water, simple but clean rooms, sometimes no electricity and the doors do not lock (however, there are no security problems). - 2** and 3*** hotels (local standards): comfortable rooms, simple and clean, private bathroom with hot water; some hotels offer rooms equipped with a safe, heating system, mini bar, … As far as our possibilities, we choose hotels whose geographical location will allow you to fully enjoy the town and its attractions.
In order to allow you more freedom during your trip, only a few meals are included in our programs: these are the meals during the treks (cold at noon and hot in the evening) and during certain excursions when the conditions make it necessary (on the Puno-Cusco road, in the Sacred Valley, etc). For the non-included meals, expect 5 to 10 USD per person. This allows you to choose the time, place and menu according to your desires!
Most of the time of your trip, your travels will take place in private vehicles: you will have at your service a private vehicle with a Spanish speaking driver who will adapt to your rhythm (photo stop, shopping, etc. …). Exceptions: - For the touristic buses Chivay-Puno and Puno-Cusco - Lima trips, you will travel in a comfortable and secure bus line with an English / Spanish speaking colelctive guide.
